Re-opening St Paul’s church for individual prayer

Posted on Jun 17 , 2020 in News

COVID 19 Update

Fr. Peter and the Liturgy Group met (virtually) on Saturday 13th June to discuss the potential reopening of St. Paul’s Church (further to the Government’s advice regarding places of worship reopening for private prayer).

As a Parish community we want to share with you the steps the Liturgy Group are currently taking to ensure that we are equipped and ready to reopen at the appropriate time. These include:

  • A review of all the guidance documents that have been issued, and how these relate specifically to our Church.
  • Completing a detailed risk assessment which has to be approved by the Diocese before any Church reopening can occur.
  • We have ordered appropriate PPE for our volunteers who we would need to reopen.
  • An appropriate day and time when our Church could reopen for private prayer was discussed. Initial thoughts are Wednesday mornings at 11am for 1 hour as the Exposition of the Blessed Sacraments could be left on the Altar after virtual mass that morning.

Reopening Questionnaire

As we are highly dependent upon a number of factors to reopen the church would you please REPLY TO THIS EMAIL by noon on Friday 26 June with your feedback so that the Parish office can collate responses to the following three questions:

  1. Do you wish to attend a pre-booked 15 minute individual prayer session (Y/N)
  2. If you wish to attend a pre-booked session, what days / times are suitable for you?
  3. As with most activities at Church, volunteers are the catalyst to making this happen. Would you be available to be one of the Stewards in Church during private prayer as we need two per session? For information, we have attached an outline of the Stewards role to this communication for your consideration. (Y/N) -> St Pauls COVID19 Steward Role

Once we receive your feedback we will then communicate our next steps; subject to there being an appropriate number of Parishioners wishing to attend private prayer, together with the required volunteers to support this. You will appreciate we may not be able to accommodate all day and time requests.

If you are in contact with any Parishioners who do not receive our emails, then please feel free to ask for their feedback and send this to the Parish office on their behalf.

Based upon a positive response to the above, we do not expect to reopen Church before July. However, in the meantime you can still join our Prayers and Mass every Wednesday morning from 9:15am on Facebook Live, or via the streaming services at St. Albans.

Many Thanks,
Fr Peter Burke.
